The Middle Tennessee Sinfonietta (MTS) is a volunteer orchestra that brings musical and artistic experiences to our local communities. Our current music director, Jeffrey Keever, founded MTS in January 2021. The mission of MTS is to provide musical and artistic awareness through performance, outreach, and collaboration.
Despite starting during the COVID-19 pandemic, MTS continued to grow. MTS has flourished into an established volunteer orchestra that is well respected. MTS is known for its ongoing artistic and musical explorations and collaborations throughout Middle Tennessee.
Sinfonietta is an Italian term that describes a symphony orchestra that is of a smaller scale. Derived from the term, MTS started as a small orchestra. Throughout the past seasons, MTS has evolved into a larger orchestra, though still using the term.
MTS includes collegiate, graduate, and professional musicians. The musicians of MTS reside in Murfreesboro, Nashville, Smyrna, Franklin, and surrounding areas. MTS provides opportunities for musicians of all ages and levels to pursue their passion for classical music. The ensemble is open to anyone who wants to join.
MTS is committed to furthering the fine arts community in Middle Tennessee. MTS connects all areas of art in each performance through constant collaboration. Each concert builds an environment of inclusivity and awareness by featuring diverse artistic and academic communities. Some of our collaborations include dancers, poets, authors, digital illustrators, photographers, painters, and more.
MTS values new music. MTS has established an annual Composition Competition, which invites composers in Tennessee to submit new compositions for a chance to be premiered and recorded by MTS. MTS has also performed in the premiere recording and production of A Vote of Her Own, a musical about the Women’s Suffrage Movement in Tennessee.
MTS is a collaborative orchestra, servicing organizations such as the Middle Tennessee Choral Society (MTCS), Nashville Community Choir, and more, while also being a primary source for musician recruiting throughout the area. MTS has enabled musicians to take part in recordings with artists such as Cody Fry, Jenny Oaks Baker, and more.
The Middle Tennessee Sinfonietta is open to all artists. MTS supports a creative life for all and promotes policies and practices that empower a just, inclusive, and equitable community. We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of our activities or operations.
The Middle Tennessee Sinfonietta is proudly incorporated under the Creative Community Inc. nonprofit organization.
